20th ESTORIL INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT

PORTUGUESE GRAND PRIX

2005

The tournament took place from the 19th to the 24th of April, inside the beautiful rooms of the Casino Estoril (teams) and Hotel Cascais Mirage (pairs). The venue for the pairs is one of the best rooms in Portugal, in terms of Bridge play. Tournament direction was by Rui Marques (one of the top european directors), assisted by Neide Vide, José P. Sousa e J.J. Curado (all national TDs). The prize money was approximately 20,000 euros (check leaflet). First three days Teams, then Pairs (one session per day). VuGraph transmitted online and real time in Bridge Base Online for the whole teams event, with an audience of more than 500 people at the top. Since the first edition, this is a meeting point of choice for all the portuguese players. This year we could see a noticeable internacionalization (even more than in recent editions, where hundreds of foreign players have already experienced and enjoyed the conviviality and enthusiastic sympathy of our organization). Morocco, France, Spain, Holland, Belgium, Norway, United Kingdom, Argentina were present. 147 pairs, 34 teams participated.
